Water Sport Heaven
Boating, sailing, water-skiing, jet-skiing, diving, kayaking and fishing.  It’s all happening in the Tauranga harbour.  And at the Nautilus it all starts on your front doorstep.  Matakana Island is just short pleasure craft ride away from Tauranga - but it’s a place where time stands still.  Covered in trees and surrounded by white sand beaches it’s a magical place to visit.  Head to Hunters Creek and you’ll have a great place to ride the wake on water skis, wake boards or sea biscuits.
Sea Fishing
At the Nautilus you can fish from the shore outside your apartment, row out a few metres to fish the harbour or get about in your boat for a quiet day of fishing. If it’s game fishing you want, there’s plenty of action all along the Bay of Plenty Coastline.  For a bit more adventure head 20 nautical miles to Mayor Island where you’ll find a paradise lost.
Trout Fishing
There is ample trout fishing opportunity within a few hours drive of Tauranga.  Get your waders out head to the Rotorua lakes, Taupo, Turangi or all the great fishing spots in between.
Downtown Dining
From your Nautilus apartment it’s a five minute drive to The Strand where you’ll find restaurants a plenty. Whether its cordon bleu or cheap & cheerful you’re after, you’ll find it under the umbrellas in the waterfront dining strip.
Mount Maunganui Beach – World Famous in NZ
Duck over the harbour bridge and in ten minutes you’ll be on the Mount Beach where you can play beach volley ball, swim, surf, kayak or parasail.  Hoof it up the Mt Maunganui and parapent or hang-glide down.
River Action
When you’ve had enough of the salt water, get fresh with a dip in the Wairoa River.  Ride the rapids on a kayak or raft when the hydro dam lets loose, or paddle the calmer waters any time of year.  Or try out the jet boating on the nearby Kaituna River.
Aero Sports
Take to the skies from the Tauranga airport.  Only five minutes from the Nautilus Apartments the airport precinct offers a full range of aero sport opportunity – flying, gliding and parachuting.  Take a spin in a vintage aircraft at the Classic Flyers museum or enjoy the air from the safety of the ground in the Flight Experience flight simulator.
Motorsport
Mt Maunganui’s BayPark speedway operates throughout the summer with plenty of stock car, saloon car and sprint car action. There’s even mini-stocks for the kids and the annual demolition derby for those who go to speedway for the crashes.  Two hours drive away is the Taupo Motor Racing track – home of the A1 Grand Prix – where you can get instruction from some of New Zealand’s top racing drivers and put your driving skills to the test in your own car or one of theirs.
Golfing Galore
If one round of golf isn’t enough for you, try your three local eighteen hole courses in one day – Tauranga, Omanu and Mt Maunganui.  Throw in the new Renner Park nine hole course and score at all four Tauranga courses.  Drive half an hour North or South to take in the Te Puke and Katikati courses then broaden your horizons by travelling a little further to Hamilton’s own St Andrew’s Golf Course.
Thermal Spas
Tauranga city boasts five natural hot spa complexes within the city boundaries– the Mt Maunganui Hot Salt Water Pools, the Welcome Bay Hot Pools, Sanctuary Point, Fernland Spa or the very private Aqua Vida.  Just a short one hour drive from the Nautilus apartments is the Rotorua Thermal Wonderland where you can take the waters or even soak in the mud.  Either way, it’s good for the bones.
Head for the Hills
If the view from your penthouse apartment isn’t enough for you, get a higher perspective.  Head for the hills.  You can be walking in the Kaimai or Mamaku ranges within half an hour of leaving your apartment.  If its snow skiing, boarding, climbing or alpine adventure you want allow three hours for a comfortable drive to Tongiriro National Park with its three peaks, the legendary big brothers of “Mauau”, Mount Maunganui.
Wander into the Waikato
Make a quick trip over the Kaimai range to the Waikato where plenty more leisure opportunities await you.  Visit the horse racing centres of Cambridge and Matamata – the later affectionately known as Hobbiton since the “Lord of the Rings” Trilogy was filmed there.  Take in the waters at the base of Mount Te Aroha or skip across to the Waitomo Caves for sightseeing, blackwater rafting or some serious caving.
Really go to town in Auckland
Most people come to Tauranga to escape the bustle of the big city, while staying right in touch with it.  With Auckland international airport just over two hours drive away and the City Centre three hours on a good Auckland traffic day, Tauranga is a good base if you want to get away from it most days but get amongst it on your terms.
